A Lehigh Acres woman was killed in an accident shortly after 2 p.m., Thursday. The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the woman as 47-year-old Maria Esther Pena.

According to the FHP, she was driving on Columbus Blvd. South in Lehigh when she lost control of her 2004 Kia Sorento and ended up on the shoulder. The car came across the road and into the east shoulder which caused the vehicle to overturn several times.

Police said she died at the scene of the mishap.

The exact location of the fatal crash was north of Bayou St. East and Columbus Blvd. South, according to the report.
