Everblades sweep two from Gladiators

By Staff | Feb 20, 2011

A theme started to appear with the Florida Everblades after this weekend’s pair of games against the Gwinnet Gladiators at Germain Arena.

Following Saturday’s 7-3 domination of the Gladiators, the Everblades appear to have found the dominate line they have sought all year long – a threat they need should they make another run at the playoffs this year.

“It’s huge having a line like that,” said Everblades coach Greg Poss.

Over this weekend’s two games, that line centered by Francis Lemieux with Alexandre Imbeault and Matt Beca at forwards, emerged as a dominant force, taking control of both games every time they were on the ice together.

Friday night, the trio combined for two goals and seven total points. Saturday night they topped that performance with four goals and nine points, with Imbeault tallying twice in the third period.

“We have played together for over a month now,” said Lemieux. “We have gotten to know each other’s habits – Imbeault is a good shooter, Beca is a hard worker and I’m more of a play record. That’s a good recipe for having a good line.”

Saturday night’s game played out much the same as Friday night, with the Blades having to come from behind to secure the victory.

Heading into the second period, the Blades (30-24-3) found themselves trailing 2-1 when Beca took a pass from Lemieux to tie the game 3:08 into the frame. It jump-started the Blades’ offense, which carried a 3-3 tie into the final period. Thehe line continued its excellent play with Imbeault scoring twice with help from both Lemieux and Beca.

“They have great chemistry,” said Poss, “They have a lot of fun together, and when you have a line like that having that much fun you’re playing well, and the big advantage we have now is that they have the time to practice during the week, which has helped that line a lot.”

That practice time comes courtesy of the schedule, which has the Blades playing just two games a week for the next four weeks, allowing them to keep fresh legs as they continue on another likely trip to the playoffs.

The Everblades hit the road for two important games next weekend at the South Carolina Stingrays, before returning to Germain Arena for a two-week homestand.
