Mariner falls to Estero, 6-3
The Mariner Tritons’ first District 4A-11 game of the season did not go well Wednesday night.
Mariner was limited to three hits by Estero’s Will Anderson and the Wildcats went on to pin a 6-3 defeat on the Tritons.
Anderson pitched six innings, surrendering three hits and three runs while striking out six.
Anderson and teammate Ryan Withstandley accounted for five of the Wildcats’ eight base hits. Withstandley led the way with three hits and two runs batted-in. Anderson was 2-for-4 and delivered a two-out, two-run double in the Wildcats’ three-run sixth that sealed the win.
Junior Jason Carmichael (0-1) was tagged with the loss on the mound for the Tritons.
“At one point we went through seven straight hitters on a 2-0 count. We just couldn’t get ahead in the count,” said Tritons assistant coach Tom Woodley.
Senior Kevin Cavanagh had two hits and one RBI for the Tritons (2-2, 0-1 district), who host Palmetto Ridge Thursday night.
