Are legislators above the law in changing boundaries?

By Staff | Feb 28, 2011

To The Editor:

The current legislators are refusing to recognize the change in constitutional law. Some 67 percent of Florida’s voters passed a constitutional law. Some 67 percent of Florida’s voters passed a constitutional amendment to change our district boundaries by making them compact and contiguous and equal in population, using existing city and county boundaries. However, our Florida legislature will proceed as thought this amendment never passed, using political deviousness to keep themselves in office.

The old method will allow them to draw the boundaries to favor keeping themselves in office.

Once again, here in Florida, the politicians will pick the voters, when the voters should be picking the politicians.

It is a very good bet that our new Gov. Rick Scott will approve this move in spite of the voters’ rejection of this method.
