Robert J. Maurer Sr.,
Robert J. Maurer Sr., 96, of Alva, died at Hope Hospice on Saturday, February 12, 2011, from complications of Myasthenia Gravies.
Born May 30, 1914, in Canton Ohio, he graduated from McKinley High school and started his own home improvement business in Mansfield, Ohio. Living in rural Richland County, he raised five children and for more than 40 years ran his successful business.
In 1984 he and his wife Ruth Ann moved to Lehigh Acres and later Fort Myers Beach and Alva. He was an avid beagler, boater, fisherman and bowler and was active in the Scottish Rite Masonic order, achieving 32nd degree mason status.
He was also active in the Shrine, helping to support the Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals. For 68 years, he was married to Ruth Ann, who, along with two of his children, Thomas O Maurer, and Pamela Jensen, preceded him in death.
Maurer is survived by three children, Robert J Maurer Jr., (Sandra) Lehigh, Kimberly Altemeyer, (Richard) Fort Myers, and Tami Carr, (Michael Ruth) Alva; grandchildren, Robert J Maurer III, Cynthia Maurer Bonin, Barbara Maurer Cypher, Jennifer Maurer, Thomas Maurer, Karen Ortiz, Kelli Jensen, Kendra and Nicholas Altemeyer, and several great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held for family and friends at Hope Hospice Chapel in Lehigh Acres on Saturday March 5 at 5 p.m.
