Blades swap players with AHL Checkers
The ECHL’s Florida Everblades and AHL’s Charlotte Checkers swapped forwards Wednesday, according to Blades president and general manager Craig Brush.
Jared Staal was recalled by the Checkers while Mike McKenzie was returned to the Everblades.
Staal, 20, rejoins the Checkers where he started the season. In two separate stints with the Checkers this season, Staal has scored one goal in 12 games. In 33 games with the Everblades, Staal posted 11 points (6g, 5a).
McKenzie, 24, returns to the Everblades lineup after seeing action in nine games with the Checkers in his first call-up to the AHL this season, but the second of his professional career. He made his professional debut last season with the Albany River Rats, playing in three games.
This season McKenzie ranks fifth on the Everblades in scoring with 35 points (17g, 19a) in 51 games. Earlier this season McKenzie was named the ECHL’s Rookie of the Month in December.
The Everblades (30-25-4) return to home ice Friday when they host the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:30 p.m. at Germain Arena.
