Ida Baker sophomore pitcher Maddy Peres has been almost untouchable in the first four games of the season.

Just 24 hours after pitching her first career perfect game, Peres was at it again Wednesday night tossing a three-hit shutout against high-powered Barron Collier. This time, though, she came through with a two-out single up the middle in the bottom of the sixth inning to drive in the game-winning run in a 1-0 victory.

Having allowed one hit and recording 37 strikeouts against the Bulldogs’ two previous opponents, Peres struck out nine Cougars and scattered three base hits to pick up her fourth win.

Katie Rieser doubled to left field with one out in the sixth inning, but was forced out on a ground ball to shortstop by Louis Ross. Hannah Kelly drew a walk to put runners on first and second, bringing Peres to the plate. Kelly scored from second on Peres’ game-winning hit.

The Cougars had one crack left in the seventh. With one runner on base with one out, a high-bouncing ball was fielded by Peres in front of the mound for a routine out at first base. An alert Jessica Nuccio fired across the diamond to Kelly at third base to double up the baserunner to end the game.

Ross and Peres contributed two hits apiece.

The Bulldogs (4-0) play their third game in three days Thursday when they host East Lee County.
