Alice Kirtley
Alice Virginia Pickering Kirtley, 87, of Ashland, Ohio, and formerly of Lehigh Acres, and Saint Albans, West Va., died on Friday, March 4, 2011, surrounded by her family. She was born on September 22, 1923, in Athens, Ohio, and spent her early years in Huntington, West Va.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ashland, and a past member of the First Presbyterian Church of Saint Albans and the First Presbyterian Church of Lehigh Acres. She was an honorary lifetime member of the Presbyterian Women of the Church. She was also a member of the City Meals on Wheels in Saint Albans. She spent her life reaching out to those in need, her family said.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Howell Griffin Kirtley; daughters Margaret (Stephen) Juzwik of Ashland and Linda (Bruce) Britton of North Attleboro, Massachusetts; sons James (Georgann) Kirtley of Cincinnati and Richard Kirtley of New York City; grandchildren Tim (Melissa) Kirtley, Mary (Matt Ferkany) Juzwik, Stephen (Jamie) Kirtley, Joanna (Brian) Juzwik-McDonald, Chris Britton, Joshua (Jodi) Juzwik, John (Charity) Kirtley, Michael Britton and his fiance Lara Slifka, Matthew (Helen Pearson) Kirtley, Katy Britton, and Sarah (Andy) Glenn. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Andrew and Abby Kirtley; Maudemarie Ferkany; Carter, Mia, and Ryan Kirtley; Madelyn and Wynn McDonald; and Georgi, Cameron, and Blake Kirtley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Flossie Pickering, and by her sisters, Helen Robinson and Ruth Brown.
A memorial service was held Monday, March 7 in Ashland, Ohio.
