Cape rowers medal in 10 events
Training, conditioning and a winning attitude contributed to the Cape Coral Rowing Club’s best single performance recently at the Sarasota Invitational Regatta.
With 34 masters rowers and 11 scholastic team members competing, the club entered 12 events and claimed two goal, four silver and four bronze medals.
“It was rewarding to see all the drills and workouts translate into results like this,” Cape Coral coach Jim Heneghan said in a release. “The competition was tough. There were some excellent athletes there.”
Sarasota’s Nathan Benderson Park hosted 45 rowing clubs from around Florida as well as Oklahoma, New York and Ohio.
Gold medalists are: Sam Scoville, Andy Kerr, Scott Anderson, Jim Poucher, Nichole Corr-Harris (men’s masters novice 4+); John Bell, Jim Gunter, Jon Hart, Sam Scoville, Karl Aswizus, Dan Sasso, Richard Griffith, Walt Buch, Kelly Gunter (men’s masters 8+).
Silver medalists are: Alis Jordan, Sue Sweeney, Meghan Fahey, Jennifer Guttieri, Nichole Corr-Harris (women’s masters 4+); John Bell, Jim Gunter, Jon Hart, Joe Guttieri, Kelly Gunter (men’s masters 4+); Adam Milton, Daniel Digby (men’s scholastic 2+).
Bronze medalists are: John Pokorny (men’s masters single scull); Frank Willis (men’s masters 1x); John Bell, Jim Gunter, Jon Hart, Joe Guttieri, Toby Tolp, Laura Simion, Betsy Buch, Annie Lahtinen, Kelly Gunter (mixed masters 8+); Jennifer Guttieri, Karl Aswizus, Dena Beecher, Cindy Eaton, Dianna Saxon, Andy Kerr, Scott Anderson, Richard Griffith, Alis Jordan (mixed masters 8+); Adam Milton, Daniel Digby, Lynette Anderson, Kelly Gunter, Jordan Hess (mixed scholastic 4+).
