Eugene D. Vodev, 95, of Lehigh Acres, died on March 4, 2011. He was born on January 31, 1916 in Sofia, Bulgaria. He came to the U.S. in 1936 as a student to Denison University, Granville, Ohio, and graduated from Denison University in 1938. He went on to graduate from Columbia University in New York in 1940.
He has been CEO of numerous hospitals in Pennsylvania. He served as a former instructor at the School of Hospital Administration, University of Pittsburgh, School of Public Health and was also an adjunct professor of Health Administration at Slippery Rock College, Slippery Rock, Pa. He became a surveyor for The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals out of Chicago, Illinois, from 1978-1983 when he retired and moved to Lehigh Acres, with his wife Estel.
After moving to Lehigh Acres he was very active in the community serving on an advisory committee that helped build HealthPark in Fort Myers. He was a former vice chairman and president of Lehigh Library Board, vice president of Lehigh Community Services and senator in the lobby group for senior citizens “Silver Haired Legislatures.”
He is survived by his wife, Estel Vodev; daughter, Hazel Robinson and son-in-law Donald of Setauket, Long Island, N.Y.; daughter, Genie Schwartz of West Haven, Conn.; daughter, Michelle Vodev of Orlando, Fla.; daughter, Emily Shedio and son-in-law, Mitchell of Lehigh Acres. Also surviving are five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at 11 a.m., at Lee Memorial Park Funeral Home, 12777 State Road 82, Fort Myers, (239)334-4880. Inurnment will follow in Lee Memorial Park Cemetery.
