Prep Report: Tritons get clipped 5-4 in 7th

Coral Springs came from behind in the seventh inning to clip Mariner 5-4 Monday in the first round of the Sarasota Baseball Classic.

Dalton Walchik laid down a squeeze bunt to drive in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh, capping a two-run rally that overcame a 4-3 deficit.

The Tritons (7-4) came back from a two-run deficit with a four-run rally in the third inning to take the lead. Charlie Klein and Walter Cleary had RBI singles in the rally and Tyler Bender added a two-run single.

Coral Springs (7-2) was limited to three runs on four hits by Mariner’s Kevin Cavanagh, who struck out nine in his six innings. Alex Santana (0-1) relieved to start the seventh and surrendered both runs.

The Tritons are in action again Tuesday against an opponent to be determined.

Bishop Verot 7, Dunnellon 0: Senior right-hander Hudson Boyd pitched six shutout innings, striking out 13, to lead Bishop Verot past Dunnellon Monday in the first round of the Sarasota Baseball Classic.

Boyd and Keith Ryan, who pitched the seventh inning, combined on the one-hitter.

Nick Rivera, Josh Garcia, Evan Dougherty and Dan Vogelbach each contributed two hits, accounting for all of the Vikings’ hits.

The Vikings (8-1) play again Tuesday against an opponent to be determined.
