Eagles fall to No. 29 ’Canes, 5-2

By Staff | Mar 24, 2011

CORAL GABLES – Five different Miami pitchers combined to limit the FGCU Eagles to just three hits Wednesday night as the No. 29 Hurricanes scored five unanswered runs to erase a 2-0 deficit and come away with a 5-2 victory at Alex Rodriguez Park.

All three of FGCU’s hits came in the second and third innings as the Eagles came in off three straight games with at least 10 hits. Both runs and all three hits came off Miami starter A.J. Salcines, who went four innings.

Salcines gave way to the bullpen using four pitchers to no-hit the Eagles over the final six innings. The Hurricanes (14-8) won their ninth straight game.

The loss snaps the four-game win streak for the Eagles, who slip to 12-10 heading into its fourth weekend of Atlantic Sun Conference action.

Starter Kevin Bryant tossed three scoreless innings to open the game, but was relieved with two out in the fourth after giving up a run and leading 2-1.

FGCU is back in action with a three-game A-Sun series against USC Upstate starting Friday at Swanson Stadium. The series winds up with a doubleheader Saturday.
