The Lehigh Acres Spring Festival ended Saturday with thousands lining Homestead Rd. The festival began nine days ago and included several concerts, games, the Festival Idol Contest, contests, fireworks, a midway, and finally ending Saturday night with a rock concert.
The weather was great as the parade started off on time at 11 a.m. at Beth Stacey Blvd. and wound its way on the straight line to the park, breaking up at Arthur Ave.
The park was filled with people all day and more programs were held.
On Friday night, Oscar Gamble retained his title as Honorary Mayor of Lehigh Acres with Tammy Rodriguez named Deputy Honorary Mayor. Both raised money to become mayor of Lehigh, which is not incorporated. The honorary mayor participates in rib on cuttings and openings of new businesses.
Charlotte Rae Nicely, executive director of Lehigh Community Services, said nearly $4,500 had been collected by both candidates. The money is used to help the needy in Lehigh Acres with rental, utility and food.
