April events at East Lee County Library
Next month’s roster of activities at East County Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:
ADULTS
English Caf
10 a.m. Fridays, April 1, 8, 15
Practice your English with English Cafe, a free, conversation session for adult ESOL and ESL students. Each 90-minute session provides adult learners an opportunity to practice speaking English with native speakers. Participants may start at any time. Advanced registration is not necessary.
Book Discussion: Stephen Hawking’s “Grand Design”
3:30 p.m. Monday, April 4
The group will discuss the three central questions of philosophy and science posed in Hawking’s book: Why is there something rather than nothing? Why do we exist? Why this particular set of laws and not some other?
Are You Hedging? How to Choose and Maintain a Hedge
1 p.m. Tuesday, April 12
Lee County Extension Services’ Master Gardener Kelly Bishop will offer helpful information on choosing the best type of hedge for your southwest Florida home. Don’t “hedge” your bets and miss this one! Registration is required.
FAMILY
Family Storytime
6:30 p.m. Tuesdays, April 5, 12, 19
This program is for the whole family and lasts about 30 minutes.
Toddler Storytime
10 a.m. Wednesdays, April 6, 13, 20
10 a.m. Thursdays, April 7, 14, 21
Children 2 years old and their caregivers participate in song, fingerplays and short stories. The success of this age group depends on adult participation and encouragement. Toddler storytime lasts approximately 30 minutes.
Baby-Parent Rhyme Time
10:30 a.m. Monday, April 11
Be prepared to tickle, jump and fly with your baby! These rhymes and songs are for infants, up to 24 months, accompanied by an adult. This 20-minute program is filled with songs designed to introduce rhyming and movement to infants.
KIDS
Fire Safety
2 p.m. Saturday, April 2
Learn about fire safety from a real fire fighter! Ted Ross from the Tice Fire Department will be here demonstrating his gear and afterwards you can make your very own “Sparky the Fire Dog” puppet.
Preschool Storytime
10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, April 6, 13, 20
10:30 a.m. Thursdays, April 7, 14, 21
Preschoolers (ages 3 to 5) attend this storytime independently while parents or caregivers wait nearby in the library building. This storytime includes activities that require more participation and a longer attention span. Each preschool storytime lasts about 30 minutes.
Kids Read Down Fines

Children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading during the allotted time in the designated area of the library. For ages 18 and younger. Coupons may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only.
El da de los nios/El da de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day)
11 a.m. Saturday, April 30
Join us for stories in Spanish in celebration of Children’s Day/Book Day.
TEENS
East County Anime Club
4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 5
Join a group of teens with an interest in Anime, Manga and other aspects of Japanese culture. For grades 6-12. Snacks provided by the Friends of the East County Regional Library. Registration is required.
