Florida Everblades top Rays, 4-1
With their 13th consecutive appearance in the Kelly Cup playoffs secured, the Florida Everblades claimed a 4-1 victory Wednesday night over the South Carolina Stingrays at Germain Arena.
The Everblades (37-29-4) look to improve their playoff positioning in the final two games Friday and Saturday with the Stingrays (35-29-6).
“That has been our problem all year – consistency,” said Blades coach Greg Poss. “We got that tonight. We played really well through the first two periods. We jumped to a good lead in the first I thought we played a little soft for a stretch in the third period when South Carolina scored, but overall I thought we played well throughout.”
The Blades drew first blood on Mathieu Roy’s 15th goal of the season on a power play with four minutes left in the first period.
Alex Hutchings made it 2-0 with 3:33 to play in the second, taking a touch pass from Ian McDonald in front in front of the net.
Roy’s second goal of the game came with 12 seconds left in the period, opening a 3-0 lead.
South Carolina beat goaltender Mike Zacharias (34 saves) with 13 minutes remaining, but that was the Blades would allow.
Tim Spencer scored the Blades final goal with two minutes left
