Cape Coral police are asking for the public’s help in identifying two men who broke into a home and then fled after the homeowner fired a shot at one.
A woman awoke at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday to someone knocking loudly on the front door of her home in the 500 block of Retunda Parkway. She told police that as she approached the door, she saw two men ringing the doorbell and looking through the glass portion of the door.
One man was described as 5 feet 7 inches with a stocky build, and the other was described as 6 feet tall with a crew cut, officials reported. Both seemed to be in their 20s. The woman watched as they left in a white Nissan Altima.
About five minutes later, the car returned and the two men began banging on the front door with more force. The woman told police that she went to her bedroom and retrieved a hunting rifle, at which point she heard a noise coming from her garage.
The woman reported that she saw the stocky man enter her home and begin walking toward her bedroom. She fired one round at the man, who noticed her standing in the bedroom doorway. He sprinted out the garage door and fled.
According to police, the man was not shot during the incident.
At 8:28 a.m., a neighbor called 911 regarding the burglary and gunshot. Cape police arrived , but the two burglars were gone upon arrival.
