By Staff | Apr 9, 2011

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Florida Everblades battled back from two goals down, but the Kalamazoo Wings prevailed in a 4-3 victory Friday night in the first round of the ECHL’s Kelly Cup playoffs.

The Wings take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series. They can eliminate the Everblades from the playoffs with a win Saturday night. A fifth game, if necessary, will be Monday.

A fast-paced first 20 minutes saw each team score and fire 11 shots on goal. The Everblades outshot the Wings 4-1 in the first few minutes, but the Wings slowly took control and got on the board when Andrew Fournier scored over sprawling Everblades net-minder Mike Zacharias at 4:34.

The Everblades tied the game with their second short-handed goal of the playoffs on Mathieu Roy’s score.

Kalamazoo scored twice in the first 90 seconds of the second period to take the lead back.

The Everblades got one goal back from Bobby Raymond.

The Wings got the eventual game-winner from Brady Leisenring at 8:39 in the third period.
