Joan L. Swofford

Joan Lindahl Swofford, 71, of Fort Myers died March 28, 2011.

She retired in 2010 from Lehigh Acres Middle School as the athletic director.

She was born March 6, 1940 in Hinsdale, Ill., and was a Butler University graduate.

She was married to Mike Swofford (1961-1981) and had two sons. She began her 31 years in physical education in Wyoming and move to Gainesville and Fort Myers. She had 26 years in Florida which led her to become athletic director at Lehigh Acres Middle School.

Swofford enjoyed all her time coaching and teaching, her family said. She was a sports enthusiast who also loved the beach and the Florida Gators.

She is survived by her two sons: Eric (Amy) Swofford of Douglas, Wyoming, and Kevin Swofford of Fort Myers; grandsons Kaleb and Tristan Swofford; nieces Trish(Jamie) Phillips, Janet Ashby, Barbie (Mike) Duvall, Wendy (Brian) Smith and Susan Swofford; nephews Steve (Pam) Bissell and Brian (Lynn) Bissell.

She was preceeded in death by her parents Mabel and Joseph Lindahl; sister Ginny Bissell and nephew Jim Swofford.

Services will be held at the Kiser Funeral Home 9231 Cypress Lake Drive in Fort Myers on Sunday, April 10 at 1 p.m. Condolences can be sent to kateswof@netzero.com.
