Miracle bag 2nd win 5-1
JUPITER – The Fort Myers Miracle came through with four two-out RBI hits that propelled them to a 5-1 victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads Friday night.
The season-opening four-game series shifts to Hammond Stadium for the last two games Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.
With the game tied 1-1 in the fifth inning, Brian Dozier smashed a solo home run with two outs to give the Miracle (2-0) the lead they never surrendered. First-year second baseman James Beresford and Jhonathan Goncalves added back-to-back two-out RBI hits in the sixth, with Dan Rohlfing’s seventh-inning RBI single capping off the night.
Miracle starter Miguel Munoz allowed just one run on two hits in 5 2/3 innings for the victory. It is the first appearance for Munoz (1-0) in a Miracle uniform.
Jupiter starter Chad James (0-1) took the loss, even though he allowed just two earned runs in six innings in his Hammerheads debut.
Dozier finished an impressive 4-for-5 on the night to lead the Miracle, who outhit Jupiter 12-5. In the series so far, the Miracle have outhit the Hammerheads 21-10.
Eight Miracle batters had at least one hit, with all reaching base at least once. Beresford finished 2-for-4 in his second career start with the Miracle, while veteran Chris Herrmann picked up two hits in four at bats in his first start of the season.
The Miracle bullpen was strong again as Edgar Ibarra tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Shooter Hunt pitching a scoreless eighth and ninth. Miracle relievers have combined to pitch 7 1/3 scoreless innings to start the season.
