Prep Report: Tritons secure No. 2 seed
The Mariner Tritons secured the No. 2 seed for the District 4A-11 Tournament with an 8-2 victory Friday night over Cypress Lake.
The Tritons banged out 13 base hits, five of them for extra bases to back the complete-game, six-hit, nine-strikeout effort of senior Justin Gubelman on the mound.
Gubelman (5-2) was one of four Tritons with two base hits and at least one run batted-in. The others are Charlie Klein, Kevin Cavanagh and Alex Santana.
The win is the sixth in a row for the Tritons (14-6, 7-2 district), who are idle until facing Naples Thursday in the Bud Roth Memorial Tournament at Terry Park.

Ida Baker 8, North Fort Myers 0: Three Baker pitchers had a hand in tossing a one-hit shutout victory at North Fort Myers.
Michael Watson started the game and pitched three hitless innings. Jon Ryker (1-1) tossed two innings and allowed the only hit. Johnathan Angelo pitched two scoreless innings to save it.
Cecil Fitch’s three-run double in the second inning proved to be the game-winning hit. Dylan Placher and Watson had two hits apiece to lead the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs added four runs in the third inning, courtesy of three walks and an RBI single by Placher.
The Bulldogs (12-9) host North Port Thursday.

Softball
North Fort Myers 1, Ida Baker 0: A lone first-inning run stood up as North Fort Myers edged Ida Baker.
Sydney Bowden reached base safely on a dropped third strike to start the game-winning rally. Bowden stole second base and was sacrificed to third by Jasmine Santiago. Katrissa Rowell’s groundout to second base sent Bowden home for the winning run.
Bowden made four defensive plays and turned a double play to help the Red Knights hold the lead.
“Our defense played exceptionally well,” said Red Knights coach Keith Gibson.
Allie Kennedy had two of the seven hits by the Red Knights. Louie Ross had two of the nine hits by the Bulldogs.
Darienne Boyden picked up the win by scattering Baker’s nine base hits. Maddy Peres took the loss.
The Red Knights (13-5) host Island Coast on Senior Night Wednesday.
The Bulldogs (18-3) participate in the Longshore Tournament Thursday in Naples.

Mariner 10, Cypress Lake 0: Mackenzie Hunt cracked a two-run home run and pitched two innings of a combined one-hitter with Carrie Grigiski as Mariner shut out Cypress Lake.
Hunt and Alyssa Langdale had two hits apiece for the Tritons (12-7), who travel to Naples Thursday for the Longshore Tournament.
