A Saturday morning fire in the northwest Cape remains under investigation and suspicious in nature, city officials said Sunday.

The fire caused $75,000 in damage to the home.

At 12:51 a.m., Cape Fire Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a structure fire at a possibly occupied residence at 122 N.W. 13th Ave. Fire crews arrived to find flames and massive smoke blowing from the front windows of the home.

Firefighters with Squad 8 made the initial entry to the residence and were soon followed by crews with Engine 2 and Engine 5. A thorough search of the home was conducted while the fire was being tackled, and firefighters found no one was inside. The fire was extinguished by 1:11 a.m. There were no injuries.

Firefighters eventually determined that the home had been vacant for a few weeks; however, a child’s bicycle near the front door led to the caller’s concern about possible occupants.

Cape Coral Fire Investigator Van Patterson determined that the cause of the fire was incendiary in nature. Multiple locations were found as areas of origin. A Cape Coral building official red-tagged the structure, while LCEC arrived to pull the electric meter. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is continuing the investigation.
