City Council will start the process of seeking a permanent city auditor in the coming weeks, tweaking and advertising the position both internally and externally.
The exact search parameters are unknown, but discussion on the dais leaned toward advertising just in Florida and not providing any relocation costs.
Interim City Auditor Margaret Krym received near unanimous support from council for the job she’s done during her tenure, but officials were hesitant to simply remove the “interim” label from her title without advertising the position. Employment procedures require the job be advertised.
“Any of the recruiting we do should be of the highest professional standards,” Councilmember Bill Deile said.
Mayor John Sullivan called Krym a “very capable lady”, but wanted to make sure council casts the widest net possible to ensure the best candidates possible. The city audior is one of three positions, including the city attorney and city manager, that reports directly to council.
“I hope we’ll get the best possible candidate,” the mayor added.
Krym has been working as interim city auditor since the departure of Donna Newman, who took another job in another state.
Krym has been working without one and three quarters of other auditor positions in her office, and also has overseen an audit of the city’s fuel usage through an interlocal agreement with the Lee County Clerk of Courts.
While Krym would make a good selection as the city’s full-time permanent city auditor, the general consensus among city council was to advertise the job.
“The city would not lose in this selection process one little bit,” said Councilmember Kevin McGrail .
