Tampa man becomes multi-millionaire

By Staff | Apr 15, 2011

The Florida Lottery today announced that Jaime Arroyo, 48, of Tampa, claimed the first $3 million top prize in the Florida Millionaires Club Sratch-Off game at Florida Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee.

Arroyo chose the one-time, lump-sum payment option for his winnings in the amount of $2,100,000. He purchased his winning ticket at Stop & Pick, located at 901 S. 22nd Street in Tampa.

According to Arroyo, he regularly plays Florida Lottery games and often purchases tickets from the Stop & Pick store.

“I won $500 a few years ago and prizes of $100 here and there, but this time I could not believe that I won this much money,” said Arroyo. Although Arroyo hasn’t finalized his plans for the winnings, he did say he will continue to play Lottery games.

The “$20 FLORIDA MILLIONAIRES CLUB” Scratch-Off game launched on January 11, and includes more than $151 million in total prizes. Currently, there is one top prize of $3 million and six prizes of $1 million remaining. The overall odds of winning are one in 2.95.

The Florida Lottery offers more than 40 Scratch-Off games at any given time through instant ticket vending machines (ITVMs) or on-counter displays at more than 13,000 retailers statewide. Scratch-Off games are an important part of the Lottery’s portfolio of games, making up approximately 53 percent of ticket sales and generating more than $396 million for the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF) in fiscal year 2009-10.

Florida voters, by a two-to-one margin, approved a constitutional amendment in 1986 authorizing the state to operate a lottery for the purpose of generating significant additional moneys for education. Today, Floridians continue to show their support by purchasing nearly $4 billion in Lottery products per year, resulting in contributions of more than $22 billion to the EETF since 1988.
