McDonald’s to offer nationwide, and local, job fair next week

By Staff | Apr 16, 2011

McDonald’s is looking to hire 50,000 people next week, including 180 in Southwest Florida and 25 in Cape Coral.
Local franchisee Tim Frederic said he was excited to offer the opportunity here in the city, and humble beginnings at the worldwide restaurant chain can mean great things in the long run.
“Our management program is tops in the industry,” Frederic said. “We’re the only ones who offer college credit with our program, and a lot of people are usually surprised to find that out.”
Frederic and his father, Fred Frederic, have owned a string of McDonald’s in the area, starting in 1987.
Frederic said he expects at least 500 people to show up next week to fill out applications, and said there are both regular and management positions available.
He reiterated that where you start isn’t always the same place you end up while working for McDonald’s.
“The majority of the managers started as crew leaders. It’s really a matter of what career path they want to choose,” he said.
Deanna Cross, who manages the McDonald’s on North Del Prado and Kismet, said she’s worked for the company since she was 16.
Starting as a crew member while in high school, she said she was surprised it turned into a satisfying career.
Cross was awarded the Ray Kroc Award in 2009. Named after McDonald’s founder, the award honors the top 1 percent of all general managers nationwide.
“There’s a lot of advantages working here,” Cross said. “I’ve made a lot of good friends and there are a lot of opportunities.”
Since all Cape Coral McDonald’s locations are expecting a flood of applicants, Tim Frederic said people should be prepared to be interviewed and ready to go.
“Come in with a great attitude,” he said. “It always helps to dress to impress, wear a big smile and do your best to show professionalism to provide great service to our customers.”
Applications will be accepted from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Tuesday, April 19, at the McDonald’s at 2541 Del Prado N. Interviews will be done on the spot, according to General Manager Deanna Cross.
Echoing the words of Frederic, Cross said to come prepared.
“These spaces are for the people who want the jobs. Bring your resume and look sharp,” she said.
