Charleston Park to hold annual celebration
Everyone’s invited to the 20th annual Charleston Park Day march and celebration at Alva on SR82. The Charleston Park Day is set for Saturday, April 23 and starts at 10 a.m. with an annual march of victory for the people of the development.
The events throughout the day will conclude at 2 p.m.
If you want good food, promoter Alice Washington of the Charleston Park Day event, said there will be barbeque chicken and ribs, lots of food vegetables, and their famous sweet potato pie, all for $7 and $5 for children. There is a $20 charge for a family (two adults and three children.)
To get to Charleston Park, drive north on Joel Blvd. When you reach SR82, turn right. Charleston Park is but a few miles down the road on the right, just across a canal.
The “march” celebrates the years that Charleston Park has been a community without drugs.
Alice Washington and others some years ago mounted a campaign with the help of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office to rid the community of drug dealing.
“We have great people living here now without fearing the law-breaking drug dealing that went on years ago,” Washington said.
“Anyone who wants to join us can join in the short march throughout the community,” she said. Elected officials and others have been invited to attend.
There is a large basketball pavilion constructed by Lee County Park and Recreation.
Washington says it may be hot in the sun, but 10 to 15 degrees cooler under the pavilion where the food and tables will be located.
