FGCU splits at North Florida
JACKSONVILLE – A three-run home run by freshman Emily Lanier highlighed a four-run first inning as FGCU defeated North Florida 5-2 in the first game of a Tuesday doubleheader. The Eagles lost 2-0 in the nightcap.
FGCU (29-25, 12-6 A-Sun) is second in the conference.
After striking out the first batter, UNF starter Cortney Radke gave up a single and a walk to put runners on. Freshman Kirsten Bembnowski then singled up the middle to plate Brittney Garabedian from second. The next batter lined out for the second out, but with two on, Lanier fired her fifth home run of the season to center field for a 4-0 lead.
The Eagles tallied another run in the third inning. With two runners on, freshman Regan Knapik singled up the middle to score a run and take a 5-0 lead.
In game two, Caroline Torre blasted a two-run home run in the first inning, which held up as Radke worked a two-hit complete game shutout. Radke threw her seventh shutout of the season in which fanned nine batters and walked four.
FGCU closes out its schedule at home Friday against in-state rival Stetson in an A-Sun doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.
