Municipal Charter School Foundation to host Golf Classic

By Staff | Apr 27, 2011

The first annual Golf Classic, which is hosted by the Cape Coral Municipal Charter School Foundation, will be held this Saturday, April 30, at the Coral Oaks Golf Club. Cape Coral Municipal Charter School Foundation Executive Director Kevin Colpoys said the idea of hosting the Golf Classic arose last year, but was put on hold due to a family fun day auction they have held for the past two years during the same time frame. “We decided not to have that event and substitute this since it brings together more of the community to support our efforts other than just the parents/kids in the schools,” he said. Individual golfer fees for the classic are $75 per and $60 for students. Registration for a team of four adult players is $300, or $285 with three adults and one student and $270 for two adults and two students. The registration fee includes the green fees, cart, dinner, hole prizes and door prizes. As of Tuesday, 16 teams have already signed up for the event. The event has also attracted 25 hole sponsors, which includes Avard Law Firm and Wright Construction as the major sponsors of the event. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, followed by a putting contest at noon and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Colpoys said the golfing should conclude at 6 p.m., which will be followed by a light dinner and awards ceremony. The dinner will consist of hot dogs, hamburgers and salads. Colpoys said the funds collected from the Golf Classic will be used to establish the scholarship fund for the charter school foundation. “This year will be our first graduating class and we felt it would be a great way to inaugurate the event and the scholarship,” he said. “We hope everyone has fun and that they realize they are supporting a great cause.” The Harney Point Kiwanis will volunteer their time during the event.
