A Cape Coral man will serve 10 years in prison for an armed robbery that occurred in the city last year. Justin Robert Nemeth, 34, of 2227 S.W. 14th Place, was found guilty by a jury in March on three counts of robbery possessing a firearm. Last week, he was sentenced to 10 years for each conviction, to be served concurrently. All three counts were punishable by life in prison, officials previously said. One count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon was nolle prossed. In March 2010, the Cape police responded to an armed robbery at a home at 723 S.E. 10th St. The victims said their former roommate, Nemeth, and two of his acquaintances robbed them at gunpoint, according to police officials. Nemeth had moved out earlier that day, but later returned with Gerald Howard Herron, 48, and Elton Calvin Williams, 30, to retrieve more items. He reportedly asked one of his former roommates to call someone who had prescription pills that he could buy. One alleged victim called two people to facilitate the request and they came over to the apartment. They denied to officers that they came to sell drugs. Upon the arrival of the two, Nemeth, Herron and Williams pulled out firearms and robbed the victims, according to police. They forcibly took the victims’ backpacks, cell phones and prescription pills. They then fled the apartment. Police reported that a gunshot was fired, but no one was injured. Detectives tracked down Nemeth two days later. He reportedly admitted to the crime and was arrested and charged. Williams was found March 19. He also allegedly confessed to the robbery when questioned by Cape detectives. A day later, Herron was located in Georgia and extradited to Florida. Officials said he admitted knowledge of the robbery, but denied personal involvement. Herron pleaded no contest to the same three counts on March 16 and was adjudicated guilty, according to court records. On April 11, Williams pleaded no contest to two counts of robbery with a firearm or deadly. He was also adjudicated guilty.
