High school rowers take 2nd in state

By Staff | May 3, 2011

The men’s high school team of Daniel Digby and Adam Melton, representing the Cape Coral Rowing Club, finished second in the state this weekend at the FSRA State Championship Regatta at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota.

Digby and Melton overcame a slow start and nearly caught the winning team from Miami Belen Jesuit Prep at the finish line. Digby and Melton finished within four seconds of the first-place pair in the 1,500-meter race. They were nearly 20 seconds ahead of the third-place boat from Orlando Area Rowing Society.

The Cape Coral pair qualified to compete in the US Rowing Youth National Championships to be held June 10-12 in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

The U.S. Championships attract more than 1,500 athletes from high school and junior rowing programs across the country.

Registrations are being taken now for Cape Coral Rowing Club’s summer camp that runs July 1822. Contact John Bell or Alis Jordan at 980-1331 or 980-1338.
