Miracle rally, win 4-3 in 10

By Staff | May 3, 2011

PORT CHARLOTTE – Trailing 3-1 in the ninth inning, Fort Myers Miracle first baseman Nate Hanson launched a two-run home run to tie the game and send it into extra innings. Nick Romero delivered a two-out RBI single in the 10th to propel the Miracle to a 4-3 victory Monday night over the Charlotte Stone Crabs.

Minnesota Twins right-hander Kevin Slowey made his second rehab appearance for the Miracle (14-11). After six scoreless innings, Charlotte struck first with a pair against Miracle reliever Matt Tone. The Miracle responded in the top of the eighth with a run of their own, making it 2-1.

The Stone Crabs (9-16) got an unearned run in the eighth.

After Romero’s leadoff single in the ninth, Hanson crushed a two-strike pitch over the left field wall to knot the game at 3-3. Miracle reliever Dakota Watts retired Charlotte 1-2-3 in the ninth to send the game to the 10th.

Stone Crabs closer Josh Satow started the 10th, but Miracle outfielder Jhonthan Goncalves got the inning started with a flare down the right field line that stayed just fair for a leadoff double. Satow retired the next two batters, but Romeo dropped a hit behind first base and Goncalves beat the throw to the plate as the Miracle took their first lead of the night.

Watts cruised in the 10th inning, striking out two of three. Watts (1-1) picked up the win, tossing three frames in his longest appearance of the season.

With the win, the Miracle took two of the three games against the Stone Crabs for the second week in row.

The Miracle, who were 3-3 on the road trip, return home to start a three-game series against the Palm Beach Cardinals (10-15) Tuesday night.
