The Lee County Sheriff’s Office today said that on Saturday, May 7, deputies were sent out at 4 a.m. to an abandoned abandoned apartment complex at 1763 Woodward Avenue in North Fort Myers concerning a noise complaint of a vehicle horn sounding for nearly an hour. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a visibly pregnant female covered in blood inside her vehicle, authorities said.

Upon further investigation it was discovered the victim, who is six months pregnant, was stabbed approximately 30 times by a male aquaintance. While awaiting an ambulance, the victim said she had been stabbed by someone named “Mike” who lives on Evergreen Road.

The victim also said that after stabbing her in his driveway, “Mike” put her in the back seat of her vehicle and drove to the Woodward Avenue location where he left her alone to die. The victim was transported to the hospital where she and her fetus were listed in critical condition, authorities said.

Deputies canvassed the described area of Evergreen Road and eventually discovered sandals next to a pool of blood and a bloody knife.

Contact was made with the occupants of the residence, one of whom matched the physical description of the suspect provided by the victim, investigators said.

The suspect was identified as Michael Ginsberg. After several interviews with detectives and the execution of a search warrant at his home, sufficient probable cause was developed for the arrest of Michael Ginsberg, who was charged with attempted second degree murder.
