Miracle fall to Jays, 6-2
In the first action against the Florida State League’s North Division, the Fort Myers Miracle lost 6-2 to the Dunedin Blue Jays Tuesday night at Hammond Stadium.
The Miracle opened the scoring in the second inning with a drive by Danny Rams. On a 1-0 count, Rams showcased his strength with an opposite-field homer off Blue Jays starter Ryan Tepera that cleared the wall in right. It is Rams’ second of the season.
Tepera was excellent for Dunedin, scattering seven hits over five innings with one strikeout. Tepera wriggled out of jams with at least two Miracle baserunners aboard in the third, fourth, and fifth innings.
The Blue Jays struck for a pair in the third on a two-run homer by third baseman Kevin Ahrens well over the left field wall. Dunedin scored its third run in the fifth when Brian Dozier mishandled a groundball by Jon Talley allowing Kenny Wilson to score from third base.
The Miracle (19-13) bounced back with a run in the bottom off the seventh with back-to-back singles and a pair of sacrifices. Jhon Goncalves led off with a hit through the left side. Aaron Hicks followed by poking a pitch off Blue Jays reliever Aaron Loup into right field.
After a successful sacrifice bunt by James Beresford, second baseman Brian Dozier lifted a sacrifice-fly into center to score Goncalves and cut the lead to 3-2.
Dunedin pushed the lead to three runs in the eighth when a Ryan Goins single plated two runs after the inning was extended on a two-out error by Dozier. Brad Glenn topped off the game offensively with a solo homer to lead off the ninth.
Kane Holbrooks (1-5) was tagged with the loss despite pitching a respectable five innings and allowing seven hits, three runs, two earned, three walks, and a strikeout.
The Miracle host the Blue Jays at 10:35 a.m. Wednesday.
