Miracle swept by Blue Jays on Friday

By Staff | May 14, 2011

The Dunedin Blue Jays completed a four-game sweep of the Fort Myers Miracle Friday night by taking both ends of a doubleheader 3-2 and 7-1 at Hammond Stadium.

The doubleheader was made necessary when Thursday’s game was rained out.

In Friday’s opener, the Miracle trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. Blue Jays starter Chad Jenkins cruised through the first six innings, allowing only four hits and setting down 11 in a row from the last out of the second to the first out of the sixth.

After Nate Hanson singled to lead off the inning and Anderson Hidalgo walked, left fielder Ramon Santana doubled down the left field line to plate one run. Josemil Pinto grounded out to produce the second run.

Miracle starter Andrew Albers (2-1) was saddled with his first loss.

In the second game, the Miracle again fell behind when the Blue Jays put up three runs in the third inning and two in the fourth on a two-run homer by catcher Sean Ochinko. Dunedin added two more insurance runs in the sixth.

The Miracle scored their only run in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI single by Hanson. The Miracle had a total of eight hits on the evening.

Blue Jays ace Asher Wojciechowski (3-2) scattered six hits through six innings and gave up one run while striking out seven. Wojciechowski continued a string of impressive pitching performances by the Dunedin starting rotation.

Tom Stuifbergen (0-3) started for the Miracle and lasted three innings, giving up three unearned runs on three hits.

The Miracle (19-16) travel to Daytona (25-10) to start a four-game series with the Cubs Saturday.

The Miracle have dropped five of their last six games after winning their previous six in a row. They return to Hammond Stadium Wednesday to open a four-game series with Brevard County.
