Elks Lodge Steak Dinner is May 19

Reservations for the Lehigh Acres Elks Lodge’s ever popular Steak Dinner on May 19 must be made by calling Barbara Guido at 770-2497.

The Lehigh Acres Elks Lodge 2602 at 1050 Joel Blvd. will hold the dinner at the lodge from 5 to 7 p.m. The cost of the dinner is $11.75 in advance or $13.75 at the door. Volunteer cooks prepare the meal and you can have your steak anyway you want it. The dinner comes with

side dishes.

Kreegel aide to be in Lehigh May 19 at library

Rep. Paige V. Kreegel (D-72) will have a member of his staff at the East County Regional Library on Gunnery Rd. on May 19 from 9 to 10 a.m. to answer question or to discuss any issues that are state related. Women’s Club holding pot luck luncheon May 20

The General Women’s Club of Lehigh Acres will hold its May meeting at noon on Friday, May 20 at the Faith Lutheran Church on Leeland Heights Blvd.

The club will have its pot luck luncheon so organizers are urging members to bring something to share with others. The program will be the presentation of scholarships and philanthropic awards and the installation officers and directors., said Linda Saul, a spokeswoman for the group. This will be the last meeting until the fall.

Memorial Day dinner, dance planned

A Memorial Day dinner and dance will be held on Saturday, May 28 at the Elks Lodge at 1050 Joel Blvd. Cocktails are at 6 p.m. with a pork dinner and sides at 7 p.m. Music will be provided by The Chadburns. Price is $16 in advance or $18 at the door. For reservations, call Barbara Guido at 770-2497.

You can donate blood in Lehigh on May 28

Florida’s Blood Centers will be at the VFW Post in Lehigh Acres on Saturday, May 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to collect blood from local donors. The blood donor red bus will be on the grounds of the VFW at 25 Homestead Rd.

Donors will receive a free movie ticket in the mail after their donation and a free baseball cap when they donate. You must bring your photo ID.

Beach Yacht Club to observe Memorial Day

For the 18th consecutive year, members of the Fort Myers Beach Yacht Club will observe Memorial Day with their annual “Memorial Day Service at Sea Ceremony.” This will take place on the waters of the Gulf of Mexico at Marker #1, approximately three miles South of the Northern tip of Fort Myers Beach bearing 170 degrees.

Boats will rendezvous at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 30, in front of the Bowditch Point Park docks in Estero Bay. VHF channel 68 will be used for initial coordination. They will then head out to marker #1 using VHF channel 72.

The memorial service will pay respect to all who were lost at sea, with a special tribute to all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of their country. For everyone to hear on the boats, the service will be broadcast over VHF radio channel 72.

After the reading, flowers will be placed upon the Gulf waters by participants from all boats, during which taps will be sounded with a bugle by a member of the American Legion Post 274, followed by a moment of silent prayer.

Clubs, organizations and individuals interested in participating are welcome but should contact Club Chaplain Hester Curry at 239-540-7200 or hbear1929@yahoo.com for logistical coordination and last minute itinerary changes.

You would need to provide your own boats and flowers. For the sake of the environment, no plastic or other non-biodegradable flowers or materials are allowed. A luncheon will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Parrot Key Restaurant at Salty Sam’s Marina on San Carlos Island.
