Miracle Schuld named FSL’s pitcher of week

The Florida State League named Fort Myers Miracle pitcher Matt Schuld Monday as its Pitcher of the Week (May 915).

Schuld, 23, is the first Miracle player honored this season.

The Minnesota native pitched a gem in the team’s 4-1 victory at Daytona on Saturday. The 6-foot-3 right-hander recorded nine strikeouts over six impressive innings. He set down the first 12 batters in a row, six via strikeout, and finished with a staff-high total for strikeouts this season.

The second-year pro is 3-0 with a 4.22 ERA. He started two games last week and recorded two wins compiling an ERA of 0.82. In 11 innings pitched he allowed six hits, one earned run, three walks and struck out 12 batters.

Dunedin’s Brad Glenn is the Player of the Week. The outfielder had 14 hits in 28 plate appearances for a .500 batting average. He had five home runs, three doubles, drove in 11 runs and scored nine runs.

The Miracle begin an action-packed four-game homestand against Brevard County on Wednesday at Hammond Stadium.
