William J. H. Petticord
William J. H. Petticord, 95, of Lehigh Acres, died on May 14, 2011.
He was the wife of the late Hazel Petticord. Also preceding him in death were his two brothers and four sisters.
Petticord graduated high school in Wilmington, Del., and completed his education at The Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania in the field of finance. He served his country in the U.S. Army, receiving a Bronze Star for his service during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, Petticord began his career-long employment with DuPont, retiring as the company’s economics analyst. He moved with his wife and sister-in-law to Lehigh Acres in 1983.
Petticord was a devoted member of Gideons and of The First Presbyterian Church, serving most recently as its treasurer. He was also an active member of The Elks Lodge 307 and American Legion Post 323 in Lehigh Acres.
Known to his friends as Bill, he enjoyed attending the theater, dining and playing Pokeno with his friends. His family said he was quick to chuckle, smile and help a friend in need and was kind, respectful and generous, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey, daughter-in-law Linda; his grandchildren, nieces and nephews, great and great-great grandchildren and grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2011 with services to begin at 11 a.m. at Lee Memorial Park Funeral Home, 12777 State Road 82 in Lehigh Acres, with Rev. Craig Countiss, officiating. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be sent to the memorial fund at The First Presbyterian Church, 60 Bell Blvd N., Lehigh Acres, FL 33936.
