Dozier lifts Miracle to 4-3 win

By Staff | May 20, 2011

After relinquishing a ninth-inning lead and falling behind in the top of the 10th, Brian Dozier delivered a two-run base hit off Brevard County reliever John Pokorny to lift the Fort Myers Miracle to a 4-3 walk-off win at Hammond Stadium Thursday night.

With one out in the 10th, Josemil Pinto picked up his third hit of the evening to start the rally. Steve Liddle followed with a walk and Aaron Hicks was hit by a pitch. A runner at every bag, Jhon Goncalves popped up to second base, setting the stage for Dozier.

Down to his final strike, Dozier fouled off three pitches and took another before lacing a single into center field to drive in Pinto and Liddle.

Leading 2-1, Dakota Watts blew his first save opportunity of the season when Brock Kjelgaard sent a 1-1 delivery over the left field wall to tie the game in the ninth and force extra innings. The Miracle had taken the lead in the bottom of the eighth with a sacrifice fly by Liddle.

The Miracle (23-18) are two games out of first place and host the Manatees (15-26) for the third game of a four-game series Friday night.
