ENGLEWOOD – New Lemon Bay football coach D.J. Ogilvie is mainly looking for improvement from his team in the spring practice sessions.

After Thursday night’s 35-12 spring game loss to Mariner, Ogilvie remains unsure how to evaluate the Manta Rays.

“We’re going to look at the film tonight and see how we did,” Ogilvie said. “Then I’ll have a better idea of where we stand.”

The Tritons never trailed in the game, jumping out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and cruised to victory. Mariner increased its advantage to 21-0 midway through the second quarter on a 12-yard run by Tyler Pigott before Lemon Bay got untracked. Pigott led all rushers with 57 yards on 11 carries.

Ryan McDougal intercepted a Mariner pass with 1:40 left in the second quarter. Three plays later, Rays quarterback Lucas Sparks rolled around end, broke two tackles and got into the end zone for the touchdown.

Tyler Holowell scored the Tritons’ initial TD on a 5-yard strike by QB Andrew Torres. Jaylen Mitchell tacked on a 55-yard TD run before the end of the first quarter.

Pigott scored on a three-yard run in the third quarter to push the Tritons’ lead to 28-6. Chaston Carter’s two-yard run in the fourth ballooned the margin to 35-6.
