By Staff | May 21, 2011

Eight of the nine hitters in the order hit safely Friday night as the Fort Myers Miracle cruised to a 7-2 series-clinching victory over the Brevard County Manatees in front of 7,368 fans at Hammond Stadium.

It is the fourth straight win for the Miracle (24-18), who pulled within one game of first place St. Lucie.

The Miracle took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when catcher Danny Rams drove in James Beresford with a two-out single to left. The Miracle pushed two more across in the second when Beresford and Brian Dozier combined for back-to-back RBI at-bats. Beresford hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Reggie Williams. Dozier followed with a hit up the middle to score Steve Liddle.

Starting pitcher Kane Holbrooks pitched five strong innings, giving up one run on a solo homer by Kentrail Davis in the fourth. Holbrooks struck out three and scattered four hits.

The Miracle broke the game open in the fifth and sixth innings with four runs. Williams picked up an RBI hit in the fifth while Dozier and Beresford provided the offense in the sixth.

With one out and runners on second and third, Beresford’s chopper through the middle of a drawn-in infield scored two runs. Dozier smoked a full-count fastball into the left-center field gap with Beresford scoring.

Dozier (3-for-4, 2 RBI) is now 8-for-13 in the series, driving in five runs. Beresford set a season-high with three RBI and now has 15 for the season.

Holbrooks (2-6) picked up the win while Miracle relievers Shooter Hunt and Brad Tippett combined for one run and one hit over four innings.

The Miracle go for the four-game sweep in Saturday’s series finale with the Manatees (15-27).
