A Riverdale High School student is under arrest after three shotguns, a loaded semi-automatic handgun, a loaded revolver, two large bayonet style knives and several boxes of ammunition were discovered in his car while it was parked on the school campus, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael Boyko was arrested at 1 p.m. on May 23 and faces numerous weapons charges.

Authorities said a teacher received a tip that over the weekend that a student was in possession of a firearm while driving on campus during a weekend event at the school. The witnesses were unable to identify the student, but did give a partial tag number, authorities said.

That clue eventually pointed to Boyko and at approximately 9 a.m. on May 23, school administrators and the school resource officer met with Boyko and asked if he had anything at school that he should not have.

They said Boyko answered “Yes, a lot” and indicated that he had weapons in his vehicle. School administrators and the SRO escorted Boyko to his vehicle. An administrator looked in the vehicle as the SRO stood by to ensure the safety and security of all staff and students, authorities said.

The administrator found a knife and firearm in the back seat and a knife and Taser in the door. In addition, two magazines with ammunition were on the passenger seat. At Boyko’s explanation of the location of other weapons the administrator opened the trunk of the vehicle to find two additional long guns and two duffle bags.

Authorities said that in one of the bags were boxes of ammunition, two loaded handguns, several knives, a ski mask, gloves and a large set of bolt cutters. A half bottle of liquid in a vodka bottle and a case of beer were also discovered.

Due to the large number of guns and ammunition in the car, Sheriff’s officials said a bomb dog was brought in to walk the parking lot. No other threats were located.
