Man wanted in Lehigh shooting incident
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office today said they received a call on Friday, June 3 about a shooting that occurred at 637 Montclair Avenue South in Lehigh Acres.
When deputies arrived at the house, it was confirmed a resident of the home, 25-year- old Juan Lopez, had suffered a gunshot wound. Lehigh Acres Fire and Rescue began treating the victim and Lee County EMS Medflight responded to transport him to the Trauma Center at Lee Memorial Hospital. Lopez was last reported in stable condition.
Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit were assigned to continue the investigation. Preliminary information obtained from witnesses reveals Lopez’ girlfriend went to let their dog out the sliding glass door when a masked man entered and a physical altercation ensued between the suspect, Lopez and a third occupant of the home. Lopez was shot during the struggle, but was able to get to a bedroom with the other two occupants and close the door. He retrieved a firearm and discharged it through the door, investigators said.
Deputies, Sheriff’s Office K9 and Aviation Units began searching the area for the suspect described as a black or Hispanic male, approximately 6 feet to 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing more than 250 pounds. No suspect was located. The investigation is continuing, authorities said.
