Miracle blow out Jupiter 10-1
A strong start by Tom Stuifbergen and the big bat of a healthy Brian Dozier spearheaded the Fort Myers Miracle’s 10-1 rout of the Jupiter Hammerheads Saturday night at Hammond Stadium.
The Miracle jumped out to an early lead with runs in the first and second innings. With one out in the first, Jhon Goncalves reached on a bunt single and took second on a passed ball. After Dozier popped out Nate Hanson scorched a fastball from Hammerhead starter Ron Rasmussen up the middle to score Goncalves.
In the second inning, with runners on first and third with two out, Aaron Hicks took off from first base. Caught in a rundown, Hicks evaded infielders long enough for Ramon Santana to score from third base to give the Miracle a 2-0 lead.
The Hammerheads cut the advantage in half in the fourth with a two-out RBI hit by catcher Taylor Krick.
The Miracle tacked on a couple runs in the bottom of the sixth to push the lead to three. Danny Rams walked to start the inning, then Anderson Hidalgo doubled down the left field line to put two runners in scoring position. The first pitch was mishandled by Krick and Rams scored standing. With the infield drawn in, Derek McCallum’s high chopper over second base and plated Hidalgo from third.
Up 4-1, the Miracle opened the flood gates with a six-run inning, highlighted by a Dozier grand slam down the left field line and over the wall.
Stuifbergen (1-4) earned his first win of the season going six innings and giving up three hits, one run, and striking out three. Matt Hauser made his Hammond Stadium debut with two scoreless innings and Dakota Watts blanked the Hammerheads in the ninth inning.
Rasmussen (4-5) was tagged with the loss and allowed four runs, two earned, on seven hits in six innings.
The Miracle (29-27) play the Hammerheads (25-31) again at 1:05 p.m. Sunday at Hammond Stadium. Matt Schuld (3-1) gets the call for the Miracle.
With the win, the Miracle regained a share of the division lead with the St. Lucie Mets, who lost Saturday.
