End-of-School PB&J Drive underway

By Staff | Jun 7, 2011

Just in time for the end of the school year, The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools is spreading the word about Sweetbay Supermarkets’ Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive to feed children in need this summer.

“It’s easy to help – just head to any Lee County Sweetbay Supermarket between June 5 – 10, purchase jars of peanut butter and jelly and drop them off at the store. Sweetbay will match the number of jars collected with all donations going to the Harry Chapin Food Bank,” said Janelle Beaber, director of marketing and development for The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools.

The Sweetbay Supermarket in Lehigh Acres is located on Joel Blvd.

In Lee County, more than 50,000 students receive either free or reduced lunch during the school year, she said. During the summer months, a daily meal is not guaranteed for those children, and food banks play an even greater role in making sure kids and their families are fed.

“Help the Foundation for Lee County Public Schools, Harry Chapin Food Bank and Sweetbay ensure that no child goes hungry this summer,” Beaber said.
