Miracle fall back to .500
The Jupiter Hammerheads erupted for 10 runs in the middle innings to cruise to an 11-3 victory over the Fort Myers Miracle Monday at Hammond Stadium.
Miracle starter Edgar Ibarra lasted only 3 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits, six runs, five earned, and striking out three. Jose Torres, Jeff Dominguez, and Ernesto Manzanillo registered RBI hits off of Ibarra as part of a five-run fourth inning.
Jupiter notched four more in the fifth including back-to-back-to-back run-scoring singles by Dominguez, Manzanillo, and Kyle Jensen.
The Miracle scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning when Anderson Hidalgo sent a first pitch fastball through the left side off of Hammerhead starter Jose Alvarez. The Miracle tacked on another run in the sixth when Josmil Pinto delivered a RBI base hit to plate Aaron Hicks.
Alvarez (6-4) picked up the win and Ibarra (1-4) was tagged with the loss. Alvarez went six innings and allowed three runs on six hits while fanning four.
Andrew Albers pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth inning for the Miracle and now has tossed 22 scoreless innings.
The Miracle (29-29) slipped one-half game behind St. Lucie, which was idle Monday. The Miracle begin a three-game series with Palm Beach (24-33) at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at Hammond Stadium.
