Bullpen shines, Miracle win 5-3

By Staff | Jun 15, 2011

The Miracle bullpen blanked the Bradenton Marauders in the final 3.1 innings, including Matt Tone’s first save of the season, en route to a 5-3 victory at Hammond Stadium on Monday night.

Fort Myers staked starter Logan Darnell to an early lead with three runs in the first inning. After a groundout from Jhonathan Gon-calves, three consecutive Miracle hitters reached base. Aaron Hicks had a base hit, Joe Mauer reached on an error and Nick Romero smacked a single to center field.

With the bases loaded, Marauder starter Nate Baker walked Josmil Pinto to push across the first run of the game. After striking out Reggie Williams, Baker plunked Ramon Santana which scored Mauer. Jamaal Hawkins then smoked a ball off of Baker’s glove to bring in Romero and Fort Myers took a 3-0 lead to the second inning. Hawkins picked up his second RBI in as many games for the Miracle.

In the second, Fort Myers added a run with a double to left center that plated Hicks and stretched the lead to 4-0.

Ramon Cabrera put the Marauders on the board with a RBI double and Calvin Anderson homered in the third inning, but Fort Myers retaliated with a solo home run from Ramon San-tana. His second homer of the year, Santana cleared the left field wall on the first pitch from Eliecer Navarro.

The final scoring of the night came in the top of the fourth when Evan Chambers tallied a solo home run.

Starting the game, Darnell (4-1) lasted 5.2 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. Baker (3-4) picked up the loss for Bradenton. In relief, Jhon Garcia excelled over 2.1 innings, stranding six Marauders and striking out five.
