‘Cowboy Services’ planned on Father’s Day at church

By Staff | Jun 16, 2011

Cowboy worship service is a come-as-you-are, relaxed church atmosphere with faith-based ministry straight from the bible. That’s the word from Pastor Deb Frysinger who says First community Congregational Church will have a different and unusual worship service for Father’s Day, Sunday June 19.

“We at first Community Congregational Church are non-judgmental folks who don’t care what you wear, what your drive, or how much money and possessions you do or don’t have.

“We know we’re all God’s children and our Lord Jesus Christ loves us and died for our sins,” Frysinger said.

She said the church is open to different ways to bring God’s Word to his people.

“I feel God wants us to do something beyond the ordinary to reach his people, she said.

“This is just another way to evangelize. Jesus went to people where they were and talked to them in their own language, on their own turf, and on t heir terms. When he talked to the woman at the well, he talked to her about water.

“When he talked to the fishermen by the seaside, he talked to them about fishing. I’m just trying to find a different avenue to reach people.

“Who knows, maybe this will open up a completely different style of worship. If people like a non-traditional atmosphere that is stress-free, maybe just maybe, God is opening a door for us. Will this do away with what we are currently doing? Definitely not. Different day, different time. Father’s Day will be a test. The whole service will be a little different,” she said.

What is a cowboy Worship Service, Frysinger was asked.

She said it is where the sermons are short and straight to the point. She said the music is Christian, but it’s country.

“Our mission is to eliminate ‘religious and man-made barriers’ and just get down to the basics found in God’s word.

“We at First Community Congregational Church do things a little different so that there is no pressure and no preconceptions about church,” she said.

And at the Cowboy Service, Frysinger said they will not “pass the offering plate.

They will pass a “boot” or a “Cowboy hat.

She said a Cowboy worship service doesn’t have a lengthy “invitation” or “altar call” at the end of the service. If you desire to join the church or want to learn more about a Christian commitment, you can fill out a card located at the table at the back of the church and Pastor Frysinger will contact you.

“We are just a group of ordinary folks that care enough to get to know you and help encourage you in your walk with the Lord,” she said.

“Who are we? We are a church with a light in the community, a church full of energy, activity and events with strong outreach to the ‘everyday culture,'” she said.

Services are at 10:30 a.m., she said. And remember it is on Sunday, June 19, Father’s Day, she said.
