Fort Myers man ejected from car, run over, killed on I-75 in Bonita

By Staff | Jun 17, 2011

A Fort Myers man was killed Thursday night in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 near Bonita Beach Road.

Sagar C. Patel, 27, died at the scene when he was struck by a car on the interstate after his car rear-ended a minivan and he was ejected from his car and struck by a third vehicle about 11:15 p.m. Thursday, Florida Highway Patrol reports show.

Because Patal initiated the crash, the FHP reported the deceased as at fault.

Before the crash, FHP reports that a Toyota Sienna minivan driven by Tomas J. Vargas, 42, of Pembroke Pines, was traveling north on I-75 followed closely by a Nissan Maxima driven by Patel. Patel’s car struck the rear end of Vargas’ van, causing both vehicles to overturn near Bonita Beach Road, exit 116.

Patel, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from his car into the center lane of the interstate, where he was struck by a Kia driven by Dennis L. Myers, 66, of North Fort Myers, FHP reports show.

Vargas was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Myers was not injured in the incident.

The crash closed the northbound lanes of I-75 at Bonita Beach Road until early this morning.
