Miracle fall Tuesday night, 5-0

By Staff | Jun 22, 2011

JUPITER – Starter Eric Fornataro and two Palm Beach Cardinals relievers combined to shut out the Fort Myers Miracle 5-0 Tuesday night.

Fornataro (4-6), who got the win, gave up five hits and walked four, but was worked out of several jams as the Miracle left 12 runners on base during the game.

The Cardinals plated two runs in the second and fourth innings against Miracle starter Jhon Garcia, who took the loss. Making his first start of the season, Garcia lasted 3 2/3 innings, giving up four earned runs on four hits.

The Miracle’s best opportunity against Fornataro came in the third when they loaded the bases with two outs. Nick Romero’s line drive into left-center field was caught as Adam Melker made a terrific diving catch to save several runs. The Miracle had at least one runner reach in each of the nine innings, but were 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.

The Miracle (34-35) and Cardinals (28-30) wrap up the first half of the Florida State League season Wednesday night in Jupiter. Right-hander Tom Stuifbergen gets the start for the Miracle.
