Miracle fall 6-5 in 10 innings
JUPITER – The Fort Myers Miracle cruised into the eighth inning with a 5-2 lead against Palm Beach Wednesday night, but the Cardinals rallied for three runs in the inning, and would later knocked off the Miracle 6-5 in 10 innings.
Dakota Watts took over for the Miracle in the eighth, issuing a leadoff walk and four consecutive singles, including the game-tying hit by Greg Garcia.
After a scoreless ninth by Watts, Matt Tone took over in the 10th. Ted Obregon led off the inning with a triple to put the Miracle on the brink. Tone coaxed Garcia and Luis Mateo to get two outs in the inning, but when attempting to intentionally walk Xavier Scruggs, Tone’s throw to catcher Josmil Pinto skipped off his glove, and Obregon scored the winning run.
Tone (2-2) took the loss, while Cardinals reliever Dan Calhoun (2-3), who kept the Miracle off the board in the 10th, got the win.
The Miracle opened a 4-0 lead with Nick Romero driving in a pair of runs with a double in the first, and Anderson Hidalgo and James Beresford adding RBI doubles in the second.
Tom Stuifbergen started for the Miracle, allowing two unearned runs on four hits in five innings.
The Miracle (34-36) finished the first half four games behind St. Lucie. Bradenton visits Hammond Stadium to start the second half Thursday night.
