Burke to be sworn in as superintendent on July 1

Dr. Joseph Burke, the new superintendent of schools for Lee County, along with school board members, Circuit Court Judge John Carlin and other invited guests will be on hand for the oath of office ceremony for Burke to be held at the lee County Public Education Center, School board Meeting Room, 2855 Colonial Blvd. in fort Myers at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 1.

After a national search, an intensive interview and vetting process and input from a Citizens Committee, the Lee County Schools Board formally offered a contract to Dr. Joseph Burke to be the District’s next Superintendent of Schools, which he accepted and signed on June 2, 2011. The contract includes a start date for Burke of July 1.

Burke, who is the current superintendent of schools for Monroe County, Fl.,, has also worked for the Miami-Dade County, Florida public school system as well as serving as the superintendent of the Springfield, Mass., public school system.

The oath of office ceremony will be broadcast live via TV99 (channel 99 on Comcast) and streamed on the District’s Web site (www.leeschools.net).
